Left: I’m digging in Camp 2 on the Paget Glacier. We are attempting a new route on Mt. Paget the highest peak on this celebrated sub Antarctic island. It was the 4th ascent of the mountain.

Centre: Martin Anwander, Hans Engel and Gerhard Schmatz two hours short of the crest. 9 hours from Camp 3 we topped out and were able to enjoy a rare, windless summit.

Right: Hans Engel takes a pull, and beyond, the northern cape. The whole island was laid out below us – magic!

Below: From sea level Mt Paget is a mountain of Himalayan proportions!
