PELAGIC NEWSLETTER  NO 15 - 28 SEPTEMBER 2006 - PELAGIC AUSTRALIS RETURNS TO THE FALKLANDS FOR THE FORTHCOMING SEASON AFTER REFIT IN SOUTH AFRICA

Pelagic Australis left Cape Town on September 13th, after her first major refit and verification program having sailed just under 80,000 miles in less than three years since her launch in September 2003.

Skipper Alec Hazell, first mate Giselle Botha assisted by Gcobani Mfobo with help from many contractors in Cape Town pulled the boat to pieces, and then put it back together again. This included mast check at Sparcraft, sail repair at Quantum, keel and rudder systems dismantled and checked, prop shaft pulled and checked, and of course all the deck gear serviced, complete engine service on main engine and generator and several modifications to plumbing and systems within the engine room. Other modifications to the interior were carried out, many based on our client’s suggestions over the last three year period. See below for a photo gallery of the refit.

Pelagic Australis is now approaching Stanley for her first trip to South Georgia on October 14th. There is still places left on this early season run to see the bull elephant seals battling for the harems. Contact me asap on skipnovak@pelagic.co.uk and jump and go. Why not?
